His best finish in the Daytona 500 is 12th in his first start in 2005. Edwards started the 2009 Daytona 500 16th and ran as high as second place. On lap 125 Edwards was caught up in a multi-car accident and the No. 99 Aflac Ford suffered damage to the splitter. Shortly after his Ford was mended the race was red flagged and ultimately called due to rain. He finished the race in 18th place.

Carl Edwards is on the pole for the Budweiser Shootout on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.
The starting lineup for the 24-car field was determined by a draw Thursday night. Defending race champion Kevin Harvick was not at the draw party as he was battling flu-like symptoms. He will start second but will have to go to the rear of the field because he did not practice the car. The last time Edwards had been on a pole for a Cup Series event was at Bristol in August 2008. "It's the first race of the season, and it will be nice to be up front," Edwards said. "It's been a while since I've been on a pole. I know I didn't earn this one, it's all luck, but it still feels good." -NASCAR.com
