In eight starts in the Bud Shootout, Ryan Newman has posted two top-five finishes.
He finished fourth in 2003. In 2005, he finished second, just .199 seconds behind race-winner Jimmie Johnson. Last year, Newman was left on the outside looking in following a change in how drivers gained entry to the Budweiser Shootout. Prior to that, the Shootout had recognized pole winners from the previous season. As a perennial pole winner – Newman has earned at least one pole in each of the past nine seasons – Newman was an annual participant in the Shootout. The 2009 race marked the first time since his rookie season in 2002 that Newman did not compete in the Shootout. - True Speed Communication

Ryan Newman has decided that family and business shouldn't always mix and the Stewart-Haas driver has a new spotter for the 2010 season.
Greg Newman won't be up on the spotter's stand for the No. 39 car this year. "It was very difficult at times for my dad and I to have a father-son relationship at the race team versus a competitive relationship at the race track," Ryan said. "I guess you don't really understand that until you work with family in a very stressful position, as it was with him. Ultimately, my dad has done a great job as a spotter, and I look forward to him being at the race track in the capacity that he enjoys." Newman's new spotter will be Jimmy Kitchens, a former driver who made 47 starts in the then-Busch Series between 1994 and 2005. -NASCAR.com

Although the second half of Ryan Newman's season did not match his first and he had to scramble to make the Chase -- he did make the playoff for the first time since 2005.
Better to be scrambling to make the Chase than be nowhere near the cutoff. Newman needs to find Victory Lane again. He was winless for the third time in four years and has one win in his past 153 races. -NASCAR PR

Ryan Newman's best career finish at Talladega Superspeedway came during the April race at the 2.66-mile oval when he posted a third-place result.
In the April Talladega event, Newman, Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski were the three drivers vying for the win with the finish line in sight. But in the track's traditional white-knuckle final lap, Newman's No. 39 Chevy limped to the finish line after Carl Edwards' frightening airborne car clipped Newman's hood, causing major damage to the Stewart-Haas Racing machine. -DMF Communications
