Jimmie Johnson will pilot chassis No. 547 in Saturday night's season-opening (Bud Shootout).
The car has only been driven one other time – to a runner-up finish at Daytona International Speedway last July. Johnson started seventh in last year's Daytona 500. He has started the historic event from the pole two times: in his 2002 Daytona 500 debut and again in 2008. In eight Daytona 500 starts, Johnson has qualified outside the top 10 only once. Jimmie Johnson crashed and suffered some bruising today in opening practice for this weekend’s Rolex 24 At Daytona at Daytona International Speedway.
Johnson crashed in the left-hand kink area of Daytona’s 3.56-mile road course driving the No. 99 Bob Stallings Chevrolet Riley Daytona Prototype. (He) was traveling an estimated 185 mph when he tried to avoid colliding with a slower GT sedan. Johnson’s car spun around and crashed backwards into an infield wall which "twisted the rear end chassis." Team spokesman Adam Saal said Johnson "was reportedly OK, a little bit bruised, but he’ll be fine."

In a ground-breaking NASCAR television appearance, Jimmie Johnson and his team are being featured on HBO’s "24/7" reality series.

Four-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson was named the National Motorsports Press Association Richard Petty Driver of the Year on Sunday.
Johnson accepted the award from Petty during the NMPA’s annual convention. The award added to a long list of honors this year for Johnson, who last month was named Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press. The Hendrick Motorsports driver said he has been home for most of the off-season after finding out that his wife, Chandra, is expecting the couple’s first child. -SceneDaily.com

Jimmie Johnson, the first driver in NASCAR history to win four consecutive titles, earned mainstream recognition Monday when he was honored as the Male Athlete of the Year by members of The Associated Press.
Johnson received 42 votes from editors at U.S. newspapers which are members of the AP. Tennis star Roger Federer (30 votes) and Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt (29) were the only other athletes with totals in the double- digits. Although Tiger Woods was named Athlete of the Decade, the golfer received only nine votes for Athlete of the Year. He was tied with NBA star Kobe Bryant and slugger Albert Pujols. For Johnson, the first race car driver to be named the AP's Athlete of the Year in its 78-year history, the award is the validation he's been waiting for since he began his historic run in 2006. -AP via NASCAR PR

Jimmie Johnson will get a head start on the competition in 2010, driving for Bob Stallings' race team in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series' season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 30-31.
Johnson has competed in five of the past six Rolex 24 races. In addition to the second-place finish with GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing in 2008, Johnson also was part of 2005's second-place Howard/Boss Motorsports Pontiac Crawford team. Johnson made his first Rolex 24 start with the same team a year earlier and then returned in 2007 for not only the Rolex 24 but also that summer's Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona with Riley Motorsports. -NASCAR PR
