Jeremy Mayfield, driver of the No. 41 car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy.
He was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 7-5 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2009 NASCAR rule book. - NASCAR PR

Jeremy Mayfield’s qualifying speed not good enough to make the field for the May 9th Sprint Cup Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway.
Mayfield’s lap of 173.577 mph in the No. 41 Toyota was 40th quickest. Since his team is outside the top 35 in owners points and required to qualify on speed, he did not make the cut.

According to Jeremy Mayfield, momentum is an important key to success in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Mayfield’s No. 41 All Sport Toyota team plans to restore its early season charge by qualifying for this weekend’s Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Despite qualifying for the first two events of the race season, Mayfield Motorsports failed to make the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In 23 starts at AMS, Mayfield has four top-5 finishes, five top-10 finishes and has led 80 laps. Mayfield’s career best start at AMS is a fourth place(1996). Jeremy Mayfield’s crusade to get his Mayfield Motorsports team in the top-35 in points continues this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where Mayfield hopes to make his 11th career start at the 1.5-mile oval.
Mayfield and the No. 41 All Sport team have turned heads in the early weeks of the 2009 season, arriving on the scene with a month-old race team and qualifying for the first two events at Daytona and California. In ten career starts at the track, Mayfield has two top-five finishes, including a runner-up finish in 2002. Paul Chodora, a licensed crew member in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy.

With 14 Cup starts at the Auto Club Speedway, including his 2000 victory, Jeremy Mayfield has the added benefit of qualifying in the top-five on four different occasions at the 2-mile, D-shaped oval.
The fact of which will be at the top of Mayfield’s mind as he makes his two-lap effort in Friday’s qualifying for the Auto Club 500. "Going back to a track where you’ve run up front and won a race is definitely good for the team," said Mayfield. "And I know a lot of the guys are really pumped up based on the car we’ve got going to California.
