Yao Ming, who earlier this week said his return from foot surgery is on schedule, added Thursday that he hopes to be return to the NBA by next season.
This news was picked up by most wires, but it isn't exactly "new" information. Owners in redraft leagues have more than enough time to watch his rehab play out, and those in dynasty leagues can take each report that doesn't contain a setback as good news.

Yao Ming's recovery from left foot surgery is on schedule. He is wearing a smaller, removable boot and has begun walking 15 minutes on a specialized treadmill.
"My weight is up and down, but (my mood) is not," said Yao. "I try to do a little more — more reading, more listening to music." He's also attending to his newest property, the Shanghai Sharks of the China Basketball Association.

Unsurprisingly, Rockets GM Daryl Morey expects Yao Ming to opt-in for the final season of his contract, worth $17.7 million.
"He's doing very well,'' Morey said. "Everything is healing with an operation that was pretty intense. He's ahead of schedule. The smart thing to do is hold him out until next year...Everything the doctors are telling us is he'll be available (next season).''

The Houston Rockets have extended the contract of GM Daryl Morey through the 2012-2013 season.
The Rockets have retooled and remained competetive under Morey's direction but may face serious challenge this season with Yao Ming out and Tracy McGrady coming off of microfracture surgery.

Yao Ming admitted on Wednesday that he won't play in the 2009-10 season due to surgery to repair a hairline fracture in his left foot.
"The (X-ray) picture looks good. The bones heal well," Yao said. But when asked if he'd play this season, the news wasn't positive. "The answer is no. You don’t want to rush it, because they want it to totally heal this time. I have been in this situation enough," he said. Yao has also hinted that he's going to have to "slow down" in order to prolong his career. Luis Scola should have a big season in Yao's absence.
