Joe Smith made his preseason debut for the Hawks on Monday, notching two points and four rebounds and four fouls in 14 minutes.
Not a great start, but the veteran forward is just getting warmed up for a long season. He'll fill in the cracks in the frontcourt rotation and isn't likely to have any fantasy value while the starters are healthy.

Hawks veteran Joe Smith sat out on Monday with a sore knee.
Smith probably would have gotten a few nights' rest this preseason anyway, and right now it doesn't sound like there is anything to worry about.

Joe Smith's value to the Hawks may be greatest as a mentor to the young talent on the roster.
Don't look to Smith having any value this season, but if he can bring some maturity to some members (Josh Smith) or improve interior play of others (Al Horford) then it may translate to improved play for some of these young guns on the Hawks.

The Hawks signed F Joe Smith to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
This deal has been in the works for weeks, but finally became official tonight. Smith should get some decent backup minutes at power forward, but is not a must-have fantasy player coming off the bench behind Josh Smith and Al Horford.

Joe Smith agreed to a one-year deal with the Hawks for the veteran's minimum on Friday night.
Smith will back up Josh Smith at power forward this season, but should only have real fantasy value if Josh goes down. Don't consider Joe on draft night, but keep your eye on him once the season starts. Incredibly, he's played for nine teams in 14 seasons after being taken No. 1 overall by the Warriors in 1995.

The Hawks, facing a concerning lack of frontcourt depth, will be auditioning free agent big men over the next few weeks.
The departure of Solomon Jones left Atlanta dangerously thin, and they haven't secured a committment from veteran power forward Joe Smith. Players targeted in the latest round of workouts could include Johan Petro, Jason Collins, Stromile Swift, Garret Siler and Courtney Sims. Randolph Morris is under contract but might not even make the team's rotation.
