There is still no update on Matt Harpring's ankle since the Jazz announced six weeks ago that they would re-evaluate his ankle in "six weeks."
While there's still an outside shot he could rejoin the team, neither side is planning on it. In fact, the Jazz are not even expecting Harpring to decide on his future at this time, even if all indications are that he will retire.

The Jazz have announced that F Matt Harpring will miss all of training camp, the preseason and start of the regular season due to lingering ankle and knee problems.
Harpring will be re-evaluated in six weeks and there's a very good chance he'll retire. Harpring's $6.5 million salary is fully guaranteed this season, so the Jazz won't get salary cap/luxury tax relief if he retires, but could recoup his salary from insurance.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, "all indications...are that [Matt] Harpring will not be able to play this season on account of his continued ankle and knee problems."
Harpring's retirement could bring financial relief for the Jazz, though they will certainly miss his intensity and leadership. Without Harpring, Mehmet Okur would be the only Jazz player 30 or older.

Veteran forward Matt Harpring wants to play this season, but first he has to get clearance from Jazz doctors after a physical and an MRI on Monday.
Retirement is still a realistic option for the oft-injured Harpring. He has had four right knee surgeries in his career, and estimates that he's had "maybe 10 or 11" ankle surgeries.

Jazz veteran Matt Harpring expects to meet with team officials early next week to discuss his future --and possible retirement.
Among other things, Harpring has been dealing with chronic knee injuries and a surgically-repaired ankle that became badly infected. He is owed $6.5 million next season, and it's not immediately clear how his retirement would affect the finances of the luxury-taxed franchise.

According to Utah GM Kevin O'Conner, Matt Harpring is planning on announcing his decision on retirement in September.
Harpring has been fighting knee and ankle injuries and may call it quits. For the Jazz he has an expiring contract which may be used to help manage a trade.
