 Miles Austin-WR- CowboysOct. 8 - 1:16 pm et
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips indicated that Miles Austin would start if Roy Williams (ribs) is held out this week at Kansas City.
Williams believes he can play, but he's yet to practice and the coaches don't seem quite as optimistic. It had been assumed that Sam Hurd would draw the start after his final-drive work last week. Instead, Austin will likely see every-down snaps as the split end with Patrick Crayton at flanker and Hurd coming in on three-receiver sets. Austin would have upside as a bye-week play if Williams can't go.

 Sam Hurd-WR - Cowboys Oct. 4 - 8:11 pm et

Sam Hurd caught three passes for 62 yards against the Broncos in Week 4.
Hurd took a fourth-and-eight floater 53 yards to the Broncos' 20-yard line with a minute remaining. Tony Romo continued to look for him on the final drive with Roy Williams on the sidelines. Hurd would likely split production with Patrick Crayton (3 for 16) and Miles Austin (3 for 19) if Williams misses time.

Sam Hurd (quadriceps) returned to practice Monday and is expected to be ready for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
Hurd missed the preseason finale because the quad was sore. With Miles Austin's hamstring injury lingering longer than expected, Hurd has a chance to be the No. 3 receiver on Sunday.

 Sam Hurd-WR - Cowboys Sep. 1 - 2:27 pm et

Sam Hurd (sore quadriceps) is expected to be held out of the Cowboys preseason finale.
He'll try running on Tuesday and hopes to return to practice later in the week. Hurd insists he feels "better than good" and should be fine for the season opener. The injury has left an opening for Miles Austin to retake the No. 3 job.

 Sam Hurd-WR - Cowboys Aug. 15 - 1:18 pm et

Sam Hurd looks to have a leg up on Miles Austin for the Cowboys third wide receiver spot.
Hurd caught all five passes thrown his way and totaled 79 yards in the Cowboys opener against the Raiders. Austin ended the game with no catches and a huge drop. Coach Wade Phillips noticed Hurd's play: "It was obvious that Sam played real well. And he'll get some more playing time because of that."

 Miles Austin-WR - Cowboys Aug. 14 - 11:21 am et

After Thursday's preseason opener, Sam Hurd has closed the gap on Miles Austin for the Cowboys' No. 3 WR job.
Hurd caught five passes for 79 yards and drew a pass interference call in the end zone. Austin had two passes thrown his way and dropped one of them even though it hit him in the numbers. The gap between No. 4 Austin and Hurd is closer than the gap between Austin and No. 2 WR Patrick Crayton right now, even though it should be noted Austin played ahead of Hurd on Thursday.
