 Alex Smith-QB- 49ersJan. 4 - 8:26 pm et
Coach Mike Singletary confirmed in his season-ending presser that Alex Smith is the favorite to be the 49ers' starting QB in 2010.
"But the thing I want you to understand is we're always trying to get better at that position," Singletary conceded. "That does not mean we won't sign another quarterback. It's a very important position." Smith should prevail in any 2010 camp battle while Shaun Hill and Nate Davis compete behind him.

 Alex Smith-QB - 49ers Jan. 3 - 4:33 pm et

Alex Smith completed 17-of-28 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's win.
Smith and the offense struggled in the first half, but Smith found Vernon Davis for a 73-yard TD pass to ignite the team. He should have done more against a brutal Rams defense. Smith played in 11 games and compiled 2,350 yards, 18 TDs, and 12 picks. The former No. 1 pick showed some good signs but also had some ugly games. He should be able to hold on to the Niners' QB spot for at least another season.
 Alex Smith-QB - 49ers Dec. 27 - 7:19 pm et

Alex Smith completed 20-of-31 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown against the Lions in Week 16.
The numbers look fine, but Smith should have done more against the league's worst secondary. The defense forced six turnovers, putting the offense in prime field position all afternoon, but Smith wasn't at his sharpest as a passer. Smith is only a strong option in two-quarterback leagues against the Rams next week.
 Alex Smith-QB - 49ers Dec. 24 - 10:50 am et

Alex Smith will play every snap in the last two weeks of the season.
Coach Mike Singletary said he wants to use the last couple of weeks to evaluate some young players, but that doesn't include QB Nate Davis. "It would be different if Alex Smith was a proven player," Singletary said. Smith has a great matchup with the Lions this week and is a solid QB2.

 Phillip Buchanon-DB - Lions Dec. 22 - 10:38 am et

Lions CB/PR Phillip Buchanon sprained his shoulder and aggravated a knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.
Buchanon is in danger of missing this week's game against the 49ers. Even though he has no interceptions on the season, losing Buchanon would make the Lions' secondary even worse -- if that's possible.

 Alex Smith-QB - 49ers Dec. 20 - 9:38 pm et

49ers coach Mike Singletary gave Alex Smith a vote of confidence for 2010 following his three-interception Week 15 effort.
"He's capable of playing better," Singletary said. "(But) I don't have any questions about him. I don't have any questions going forward." Singletary was referring to next season when he said "going forward." The 49ers also clearly do not have any intentions of turning back to Shaun Hill.
