Jags GM Gene Smith wouldn't commit to bringing back "decision players" such as Torry Holt and Reggie Nelson this offseason.
Also on the list are DE/OLB Quentin Groves, OT Tra Thomas, and C Brad Meester. Holt has declined to the point where he struggles to separate from defenders, and he offers no playmaking ability whatsoever. Mike Thomas could ascend to his starting spot in 2010. Nelson has regressed into one of the worst tacklers in the league and is no longer deserving of a roster spot.

Beat writer Vito Stellino expects the Jags to part ways with OLB/DE Quentin Groves and FS Reggie Nelson this offseason.
Groves had trouble with the Jags' gradual switch to a 3-4 defense, and he spent most of the season in coach Jack Del Rio's doghouse. Nelson has regressed terribly the past two seasons, turning into one of the worst tacklers in the league.

Rookie Julius Williams has been named the Jaguars' starting right defensive end following the season-ending loss of Bryan Smith.
Williams, an undrafted free agent out of UConn, has eight tackles in nine 2009 appearances. He's getting the nod over 2008 second-round pick Quentin Groves. Groves, emerging as a bust, has 19 tackles and zero sacks.

The Jaguars have promoted Bryan Smith into the starting lineup at right defensive end, replacing Quentin Groves.
Groves, an emerging bust from the 2008 NFL Draft, has just 16 tackles, no sacks, and one hit-and-run accusation on the season. Smith had three QB hits off the bench in Week 9. He's a pressure player, but will likely be a liability against the run at just 6'2/245. Of course, Groves is only 6'3/259.

SI.com's Peter King and the National Football Post's Michael Lombardi both expect Jags OLB/DE Quentin Groves to be shopped at a reduced price this week.
Groves is in the doghouse after missing the team charter to Seattle two games ago. Worse, he's struggled to adjust to the 3-4 defense, which the Jags have used heavily this season.

Jaguars DE/OLB Quentin Groves will only be fined for missing the team charter to Seattle last week.
Groves was involved in a three-car accident while driving to the airport Friday. He's accused by one of the drivers of fleeing the scene and and receiving special treatment from police, but coach Jack Del Rio said a fine will serve as Groves' only punishment unless new information comes out.
