Columnist Charley Walters says the Vikings need Brett Favre to make a decision on his future by March 5.
Walters is right, but that doesn't mean Favre will do it. March 5 is when the trading period opens and the Vikings will need to know if they should be making a play for guys like Donovan McNabb or not. For what it's worth, Adam Schefter "tweeted" Monday morning that he "guesses" Favre will return.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Sid Hartman is "convinced" Brett Favre will return to the Vikings for one more season.
Hartman is a columnist rather than a beat writer, so take this with a grain of a salt. He believes the Vikings will offer Favre a financial package that can't be refused. Long-time friend and teammate Ryan Longwell also believes Favre had so much fun with the Vikes in 2009 that there's a good chance he will return for another season.

According to his brother Scott, Brett Favre sustained injuries to both wrists, both ankles and one leg in addition to having his head bruised in the NFC title game.
"He was beat all to hell," said Scott, adding that he doesn't think Brett has made a decision on retirement yet. Scott also believes it will be difficult for his brother to walk away because of his "special bond" with Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Adrian Peterson.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Tuesday that he has no "strong expectation one way or another" on Brett Favre returning for the 2010 season.
Childress added that he will impose no deadline on Favre for a retirement decision. The Vikes' head coach has already shown that he's willing to wait out the future Hall of Famer through a full offseason.

Brett Favre's teammates are lobbying for him to return for one more season, even if it means missing another training camp.
Favre famously hates training camp, preferring instead to work out with high school kids in Mississippi. And, frankly, he's proven that he doesn't need training camp to play well. After a draining game Sunday, the 40-year-old said he's "highly unlikely" to play again but will talk it over with his family for a few days.

Brett Favre told ESPN's Ed Werder that it's "highly unlikely" he'll play again.
We all know this doesn't mean that much, especially hours after a brutal NFC Championship Game loss in which he took numerous big hits. Favre put together the best statistical season of his career in 2009 and the Vikings will remain largely intact next year. He'll almost certainly get the itch to play again at some point down the line.
