Tom Brady's $3 million offseason roster bonus is due on March 5.
As ESPN's Mike Reiss notes, the presence of the bonus in Brady's deal at the start of the new league year could expedite talks on a long-term extension. The Pats would likely prefer to sign Brady to a new contract before paying the bonus rather than after it. Brady is expected to command at least $15M annually on his deal, which will probably span at least five years.

Despite entering the last year of his contract, Tom Brady didn't express urgency about getting an extension when asked about the situation Monday.
Brady is entering the last year on his contract. The 2009 Comeback Player of the Year downplayed his desire for a new deal, saying "We are all overpaid." Extending Brady still figures to be a priority for the Patriots after free agency and the draft. Brady also confirmed that he won't need surgery of any sort this offseason after battling through injuries down the stretch.

Tom Brady has pulled out of the Pro Bowl.
Brady's surgically repaired knee was the concern entering the season, but by year's end his finger, shoulder, and ribs were bigger problems. It's not a surprise that he'll rest instead of playing in Miami. Brady was replaced on the AFC roster by Matt Schaub, who led the league with 4,770 passing yards.

Tom Brady completed 23-of-42 passes for 154 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in the Patriots' playoff loss.
New England posed no threat in the downfield passing game with Randy Moss hobbled by knee troubles, which explains Brady's unremarkable YPA. The Pats lacked any hint of explosiveness on offense. Brady enters a contract year in 2010, so the club will likely look to lock him up. The 32-year-old is on the hook for $6.5 million next season, including a $3M roster bonus.

Tom Brady (ribs, shoulder, finger) is practicing in full this week.
The reports about Brady playing through broken ribs and a fractured may have just surfaced recently, but he's already over the worst of it. Ben Watson (knee) and Julian Edelman (arm) are also practicing in full this week.

Tom Brady has been voted the NFL's 2009 Comeback Player of the Year by the Associated Press.
Brady's 19 votes edged out a host of quality candidates, including Cadillac Williams (14 votes), Vince Young (7), and Cedric Benson and Brett Favre (4 apiece). His finish as the No. 8 fantasy QB was disappointing, but Brady returned the Pats to the playoffs and improved their passing offense from No. 12 overall under Matt Cassel to third in the league. Brady missed all but a few plays in 2008 with a torn ACL and MCL, and was the odds-on favorite all along.
