The Browns predictably deny that they were negligent in causing and handling Joe Jurevicius' staph infection.
Remember when this was a nice story of a hometown guy taking less money to play for his favorite team? The Browns plan to "vigorously defend" themselves, so it sounds like we're headed for a trial.

Former NFL receiver Joe Jurevicius is suing the Browns, ex-team Dr. Anthony Miniaci, and current team Dr. Richard Figler for "negligence and fraud" regarding his 2007-2008 knee injuries.
The 34-year-old is arguing that the doctors and team cost him more years in the NFL. Jurevicius needed at least seven knee surgeries after catching a staph infection at the Cleveland Clinic, which is also being sued. Jurevicius hasn't formally retired, but the lawsuits confirm that he's done playing.

Browns released WR Joe Jurevicius.
The only surprise is that it took so long. Jurevicius was due $2.9M and the poor guy underwent seven known knee surgeries in less than a 12-month span ending in Dec. 2008. A second-round pick of the Giants in 1997, Jurevicius caught 29 touchdowns in his career, which is very unlikely to continue.

Browns coach Eric Mangini said Friday that T Ryan Tucker (knee) and WR Joe Jurevicius (knee) should be ready to participate "to some degree" in March OTAs.
The Browns have been talking to their agents about restructuring their deals. Neither player is likely to return without taking a pay cut.

Joe Jurevicius, already on injured reserve, underwent his seventh knee surgery in less than 12 months last week.
Jurevicius wants to play in 2009, but the Browns won't pay the $2.9 million he's due. To get a chance to make the team, he'll probably have to restructure it to the minimum. Jurevicius is 34 and should probably start thinking about life after football.
