 Ben Roethlisberger-QB- SteelersSep. 3 - 11:07 am et
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports Ben Roethlisberger's suspension has been reduced from six games to four, as expected.
Big Ben is headed back to Pittsburgh after meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell in New York Friday morning. Though reports indicated that Roethlisberger wanted to push for fewer than four games, the Steelers never believed that scenario to be a possibility. Dennis Dixon is a good bet to start all four games against the Falcons, Titans, Bucs, and Ravens before the Week 5 bye. Roethlisberger will take over in a Week 6 home game against the Browns.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ben Roethlisberger and Steelers president Art Rooney II "will not be politicking" to have the quarterback's suspension reduced beyond two games.
The Post-Gazette refutes previous reports that Rooney is accompanying Roethlisberger to pressure commissioner Roger Goodell into reducing the suspension to "at least" three games. "That door is not open," according to a source close to the situation. Big Ben's meeting will take place Friday morning.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that Ben Roethlisberger will ask for "at least" a three-game reduction of his 4-6 game suspension during his meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday.
Roethlisberger will bring team president Art Rooney II to the meeting, in an effort to show he also has the backing of the respected Steelers organization. Goodell is believed to already be in favor of reducing the ban to four games, but Big Ben has gone above and beyond what the NFL asked of him since his latest sexual assault accusation. Roethlisberger can also contend that he's the only player in league history to be suspended under the Personal Conduct Policy without being arrested or charged with a crime.

Ben Roethlisberger plans on working out with Steelers quarterbacks coach George Whitfield Jr. in Pittsburgh during his suspension.
Big Ben is also considering volunteering to coach at a local high school as he continues to rehab his image. We expect commissioner Roger Goodell to officially reduce Roethlisberger's suspension to four games on Friday. He should be in fine shape once he gets back under center for the Steelers.

Updating a previous item, the report from the Washington Post's Mike Wise that Ben Roethlisberger's suspension will be set at five games appears to have no basis in fact.
Profootballtalk calls Wise's suspension report "a hoax, a joke, or a social experiment." There's no reason to believe Big Ben will miss more than four games after commissioner Roger Goodell noted that Roethlisberger has done all that was expected of him -- and then some.

The Washington Post's Mike Wise is "told" that Ben Roethlisberger's suspension will only be reduced to five games rather than the expected four.
Take this "report" with a heavy grain of salt. Wise is a columnist, not a reporter. It immediately calls to mind Dallas Morning News columnist Tim Cowlishaw's misdirection last week on an impending Darrelle Revis signing. If this news does turn out to be accurate, Big Ben would miss the first four games, the bye week, and then a home game against the Browns.
