 Shawn Springs-DB- PatriotsNov. 19 - 11:02 am et
Shawn Springs was a healthy scratch in the Week 10 loss to the Colts.
Springs, 34, was expected to be the team's No. 1 corner when he signed a three-year deal last April. But the emergence of Jonathan Wilhite across from Leigh Bodden has turned Springs into a bystander. To his credit, Springs didn't complain about his demotion. "Man, whatever coach decides is best for the team at the moment," Springs said.

 Leigh Bodden-DB - Patriots Oct. 30 - 7:38 pm et

The Patriots are using a rare four-man rotation at cornerback this season, with Leigh Bodden playing the most.
Bodden has played 75% of the snaps, while Jonathan Wilhite plays second most (66%) and rookie Darius Butler (55) is third. Shawn Springs brings up the rear at 49%. The plan has worked, as New England ranks fifth against the pass and isn't giving up nearly as many big plays as last year's secondary.

 Shawn Springs-DB - Patriots Jun. 24 - 1:17 pm et

The Boston Globe suggests that the Patriots will use Shawn Springs as a "matchup corner" to square off against opposing No. 1 receivers.
The Pats have rarely employed true matchup coverage, but Springs always has posed problems for bigger receivers like Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress. Springs is slated to start at left corner, with Leigh Bodden at RCB.

 Shawn Springs-DB - Patriots Apr. 3 - 10:58 am et

Shawn Springs' three-year contract with the Patriots has a base worth of $9.75 million and includes a $2.7 million signing bonus.
Springs will make $4.55M in 2009, including a $1.75M salary and $100K workout bonus. The 34-year-old may be cut before the contract ends, but he's going to be on the team this season and might be the Pats' No. 1 corner.

 Shawn Springs-DB - Patriots Mar. 9 - 12:22 pm et

Shawn Springs' contract with the Patriots is for three years and worth roughly $10.5 million in base value.
He can make another $2.5 million in incentives. The guaranteed portion of the deal isn't available, but he probably didn't get much. While Springs can still cover, this is likely a year-to-year agreement. He turns 34 in two days.

 Shawn Springs-DB - Patriots Mar. 5 - 4:31 pm et

Patriots agreed to terms with CB Shawn Springs, formerly of the Redskins.
The Eagles wanted Springs as a safety, but he'll start out at corner in New England and likely move immediately into the first-team defense. Springs, 34, probably only has a year or two left, but his play hasn't fallen off much the last two seasons. Though he'll be an injury risk -- Springs has missed 19 starts since 2005 -- he can still be an impact cover corner when healthy.
