The Boston Globe expects the Patriots to make a run at Deion Branch if the Seahawks release him this offseason.
The new regime in Seattle won't bring Branch back at his $5.47M salary. The Pats desperately need a No. 2 receiver opposite Randy Moss, but Branch is in heavy decline while battling chronic knee issues. He finished toward the bottom of Football Outsiders' and Profootballfocus.com's receiver rankings in 2009.

Deion Branch caught four balls for 77 yards in Week 17.
His best game of the year, in a landslide. Drawing another start in place of Nate Burleson (ankle), Branch showed some run-after-catch ability in the first half and led Seattle in receiving. The 30-year-old is still highly unlikely to be a Seahawk in 2010 at his scheduled salary of $5.47 million.

Deion Branch caught five passes for 53 yards in Week 16 against the Packers.
Branch has now been targeted 19 times in the past two weeks with Nate Burleson out, but has just 81 yards to show for it.

Seahawks coach Jim Mora reiterated that Nate Burleson (ankle) is unlikely to play this week.
Deion Branch saw an increase in targets, though he was the most ineffective receiver in the league last week. Expect the Seahawks to take a longer look at Deon Butler Sunday at Green Bay.

Seahawks coach Jim Mora called Nate Burleson (ankle) and SLB Aaron Curry (stinger) "doubtful" for Week 16 in his Monday press conference.
Burleson's high ankle sprain could easily shelve him for the rest of the regular season. Fill-in starter Deion Branch struggled badly in his place Sunday against Tampa Bay, managing just 28 yards and failing to show any kind of burst on deep targets from Matt Hasselbeck. Branch could be on his last legs.

With Nate Burleson sidelined, Deion Branch was targeted a team-high 10 times Sunday but hauled in just four passes for 28 yards.
Branch has complained all season about playing time, and then did next to nothing with his opportunity. He will likely be released in February. Lacking explosiveness and turning 31 before next season, he won't garner much interest.
