Ben Roethlisberger passed on a chance at the Pro Bowl to nurse the right shoulder injury he suffered in Week 17.
"His shoulder was not 100% from our final game in Miami," Steelers P.R. man Dave Lockett said. "Our doctors and trainers have recommended that he should allow it to heal 100%." Roethlisberger didn't require surgery, and figures to be just fine for OTAs in May. Matt Schaub will go to Miami instead.

 Rashard Mendenhall-RB - Steelers Jan. 15 - 10:14 am et

Owner Art Rooney II has made it clear to coach Mike Tomlin that he wants the Steelers' offensive philosophy to tilt back toward the run again this year.
Tomlin reportedly agreed that the running game will be a point of emphasis in 2010. This has been a big story in Pittsburgh, where they're blaming the defense's meltdown on Bruce Arians' high-scoring offense. Rashard Mendenhall will see an increase in carries next season, but the offense will continue to rely on the arm of its best player -- Ben Roethlisberger.

 Steelers Offense-TM - Steelers Jan. 6 - 3:55 pm et

The Steelers have decided to retain offensive coordinator Bruce Arians for 2010.
This should keep Ben Roethlisberger in the top-ten fantasy QBs next season. Arians, whose pass-first ways helped Pittsburgh finish as the No. 7 offense but were trashed by fans that don't realize the team's strength is no longer on the ground, will be back for his third season as the Steelers' playcaller. His return also bodes well for Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Heath Miller, Mike Wallace, and new every-down running back Rashard Mendenhall.

 Ben Roethlisberger-QB - Steelers Jan. 5 - 1:46 pm et

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Ben Roethlisberger will not need surgery after injuring his shoulder in Sunday's finale against the Dolphins.
Big Ben played in obvious pain after suffering the injury early in the fourth quarter. He was sacked 50 times again this season, prompting Tomlin to declare: "I'm looking to rectify that in some form or fashion." After upgrading at cornerback, an offensive line fix is likely the next highest priority.

 Ben Roethlisberger-QB - Steelers Jan. 3 - 4:13 pm et

Ben Roethlisberger completed 18-of-27 passes for 220 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Dolphins.
In the fourth quarter, Roethlisberger reached for a fumble and his right (throwing) arm was smashed in the pile. He played the rest of the game in serious pain while his arm hanged lifelessly between snaps. It's something to watch if the Steelers make the playoffs. Looking ahead to 2010, Big Ben's fantasy outlook is on the rise with the Steelers shifting to a pass-oriented offense. He set a career high with 4,328 passing yards this season.
 Peyton Manning-QB - Colts Dec. 29 - 7:13 pm et

Peyton Manning, the leading vote receiver, has been elected to his 10th AFC Pro Bowl.
The league's MVP candidate was a lock. Philip Rivers and Tom Brady will back him up, as expected. With 4,467 yards and 27 touchdowns, Matt Schaub was arguably a more deserving candidate than Brady. Ben Roethlisberger (4,108 yards, 66.6 completion percentage, and 8.6 yards per attempt) was also snubbed.
