Browns coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday he is still weighing his options in terms of who will replace D'Qwell Jackson (injured reserve, shoulder).

The candidates are David Veikune, Kaluka Maiava and David Bowens. Veikune and Maiava are rookies. None of the three have been affected by the team's flu bug yet. Expect some sort of rotation, with Maiava and Veikune leading the way.

Alex Hall-LB - Browns

Alex Hall has taken over as the Browns' starting outside linebacker opposite Kam Wimbley.

Hall's bypassed David Bowens, who still figures to rotate in on some early downs. Hall has arguably even better pass-rushing upside than Wimbley, but hasn't done much this preseason. We'd avoid this situation in IDP leagues.

David Bowens is expected to take the Browns' old outside linebacker role vacated by free agent Willie McGinest.

Bowens turns 32 before the season and is coming off knee surgery, so the Browns had better hope second-round pick David Veikune comes along fast. Bowens won't alleviate any double teams from OLB Kamerion Wimbley.

Browns signed LB David Bowens to a four-year, $7.2 million contract.

While Rex Ryan acquires good players from his old team in New York, Eric Mangini is bringing in mediocre ex-Jets. Nobody else would've given Bowens, 32 and coming off knee surgery, a four-year deal for this much. He certainly isn't the answer to the gaping hole opposite OLB Kamerion Wimbley.

Free agent OLB David Bowens is reportedly leaning towards playing for the Browns over re-signing with the Jets.

At 32, Bowens is on the downswing as a backup and special teams player. He reportedly "loves" playing for Eric Mangini, which puts him select company.

Free agent LB David Bowens will visit the Browns on Wednesday.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reveals that Bowens needed his knee scoped after last season. It's questionable whether he'll be able to pass physicals.
