Rookie DT Roy Miller has impressed coaches with his aggressive play so far this preseason and has worked himself into the rotation at defensive tackle.
"He has been the buzz of the whole camp. He...will be in the three-man rotation," said coach Raheem Morris. Miller, a third-round pick from Texas, will the top backup for both NT Chris Hovan and under tackle Ryan Sims.

Bucs re-signed DT Ryan Sims to a four-year, $8 million contract. The deal includes a $3.25 million signing bonus.
At 6'4/315, Sims has enough size to play in new DC Jim Bates' scheme, but the former top-ten pick isn't productive and is known for being "on the ground too much." The Bucs were gashed by the run in Sims' spot starts last year. He'll likely remain a rotating wave player under the aggressive Bates.

Bucs DT Jovan Haye (knee) didn't make the team flight to Carolina for Monday night's game.
Ryan Sims, who offers quite a bit more size at 6'4/315 to Haye's 6'2/285, could actually be an upgrade against DeAngelo Williams and the Panthers' high octane run game. Sims won't be a big threat to collapse the pocket.

While the Bucs haven't disclosed the extent of DT Jovan Haye's knee injury, it sounds like they are planning to be without him for Monday's game against Carolina.
Coach Jon Gruden said backup Ryan Sims "might have to play 60 plays." Sims has played well as a wave guy, but the Bucs will miss Haye's ability to collapse the pocket up the middle. Sims isn't a pressure player.
