 Fred Taylor-RB- PatriotsFeb. 5 - 1:53 pm et
Fred Taylor said Friday that he wants to return to the Patriots in 2010.
Taylor missed all but six games in 2009 due to ankle surgery. He was effective when healthy, but a $2 million salary makes his return uncertain. The Patriots may also pursue turnover in the offensive backfield. Taylor and Sammy Morris are getting over the hill, Laurence Maroney has been wildly inconsistent, and third-down back Kevin Faulk is headed for free agency.

 Fred Taylor-RB - Patriots Jan. 12 - 11:09 am et

The Boston Herald expects Fred Taylor to be back with the Patriots in 2010.
The paper calls Kevin Faulk, an impending unrestricted free agent, the most likely of New England's current backs to depart. Taylor, 34, averaged a solid 4.3 YPC in 2009, but missed most of the season after undergoing ankle surgery. He is due a $2M base salary in 2010 and is not guaranteed to return.

Fred Taylor rushed just twice for one yard in the Patriots' playoff loss to the Ravens.
Taylor wasn't exactly the Corey Dillon-type addition most expected during his first season with New England. The 34-year-old began the year as a starter, but missed ten games after undergoing ankle surgery and had just modest success when he was in. Due $2 million in 2010, Taylor's future is unclear.
 Laurence Maroney-RB - Patriots Jan. 7 - 8:49 pm et

Patriots running backs coach Ivan Fears emphasized Thursday that the Patriots trust Laurence Maroney with the ball in his hands.
The coaches are working to cure Maroney of his fumblitis. We had tentatively been expecting Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor to handle early down work, but the truth is nobody knows what to expect with this backfield until Sunday's game starts. It certainly seems like Maroney is out of the doghouse -- if he was ever there in the first place.

 Laurence Maroney-RB - Patriots Jan. 5 - 3:33 pm et

Former Patriots linebacker and current ESPN analyst Tedi Bruschi speculated Tuesday that Laurence Maroney will not re-emerge as the lead back in the playoffs.
"I think the Patriots are going to go with Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor," Bruschi said. Maroney was believed to be in the doghouse after losing his third goal-line fumble of the season in Week 16. He was deactivated in Week 17, though Bill Belichick has been tight-lipped about the situation. We expect Morris and Taylor to carry the load on early-downs with Kevin Faulk handling passing situations.

 Fred Taylor-RB - Patriots Jan. 3 - 5:40 pm et

Fred Taylor rushed seven times for 33 yards and two touchdowns against the Texans in Week 17.
Taylor and Sammy Morris both ran seven times with Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk in active. It's anyone's guess who the backfield will shake out during the playoffs, though Taylor's successful return from an ankle injury gives Bill Belichick another option should Maroney's fumbling land him in the doghouse.
