Byron Leftwich says he wants to stay with the Bucs.
Leftwich went 0-3 as a starter this season, landed on injured reserve and then served as a mentor to Josh Freeman. As much as he wants to play that role again, he's due a $3.5M roster bonus in March and will almost certainly be cut.

Bucs placed Byron Leftwich (elbow) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Leftwich was Tampa's No. 3 QB behind Josh Freeman and Josh Johnson. The Bucs used Leftwich's banged-up elbow to justify the move to I.R., but wanted to bring in youngster Rudy Carpenter from Dallas' practice squad anyway. With a $3.5M roster bonus due him in March 2010, Leftwich won't be back with the Bucs. The Steelers will likely show interest in him after he's cut.

The Bucs signed QB Rudy Carpenter off the Cowboys' practice squad, which may be a sign that Byron Leftwich will soon be gone.
Carpenter was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State. Leftwich went 0-3 as the Bucs starter to open the season after beating out Luke McCown in training camp. He is now the team's No. 3 quarterback but hasn't practiced in the past several weeks due to tendinitis in his right elbow. Leftwich may be running out of options in the league.

Bucs coach Raheem Morris confirmed Wednesday that Josh Freeman is the team's new starting quarterback.
It's the Bucs' third QB change since the start of 2009, none of which resulted from injury. Freeman took two sacks, fumbled, and went 2-of-4 for 16 yards in his debut last week against New England. He completed just 44.9% of his preseason attempts with one TD and three picks. Grab Freeman if you're desperate in two-QB leagues, but there's not much hope for him this year.

Byron Leftwich (hip) said he couldn't have played in Week 4 even if he hadn't been benched.
Leftwich was inactive for the loss to the Redskins as Josh Johnson made his first career start. There are no signs yet that Leftwich will be released, even though the former starter is now the No. 3 quarterback.

Bucs declared RB Derrick Ward, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Marcus Hamilton, C Jeff Faine, OL Marc Dile, T Demar Dotson, DT Dre Moore and DL Kyle Moore inactive for Week 4 against the Redskins.
Ward was a game-time decision because of a knee injury and Cadillac Williams should get the bulk of the carries versus Washington. Leftwich has been demoted to third string after struggling in three weeks as the starter.
