Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio openly questioned whether David Garrard can be a "Super Bowl-caliber" quarterback.
"A quarterback like David Garrard can be that with a great supporting cast," said Del Rio. "I don't know. When you look at teams that have won multiple championships, I think they've had elite quarterbacks." Del Rio is stating the obvious, but it also points to Garrard's tenuous grasp on the job in Jacksonville. If he doesn't raise his level of play in 2010, the Jags will look for a new franchise quarterback.

 David Garrard-QB - Jaguars Jan. 24 - 8:26 pm et

David Garrard has been selected to the Pro Bowl as Peyton Manning's replacement, according to Garrard's agent Phil Senich.
Needless to say, he's brutally undeserving. Garrard, who finished the year with a 15:10 TD-to-INT ratio, threw multiple touchdown passes in just five games all season and was horrible on the road. Garrard still apparently got more fan votes than Kyle Orton, who completed a higher percentage of passes, threw for more yards, and had 21 TDs compared to 12 INTs.

Just a week after coach Jack Del Rio was lukewarm in his support of David Garrard, owner Wayne Weaver followed suit.
"I think David Garrard can win for us. We have to do some things differently there, in terms of preparation," Weaver said. The bottom line is that the Jags aren't thrilled with Garrard, but they know they can't do much better without changing their offense to suit Tim Tebow or rebuilding with a true pro-style rookie passer. Garrard is the likely Week 1 starter in 2010.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio wasn't overwhelming in his support of David Garrard heading into next season, calling him a "middle-tier" quarterback.
"He definitely fits in[to] the club’s plans moving forward. You could be doing a lot worse," Del Rio said. It's worth noting that Garrard is set to make $8 million next season, but he's still likely to return as the starter in 2010. There's just not enough quarterback talent out there.

 David Garrard-QB - Jaguars Jan. 3 - 3:56 pm et

David Garrard completed 22-of-39 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Jaguars' Week 17 loss to Cleveland.
He also ran for 40 yards on five scrambles, finishing the year with 323 rushing yards. Garrard posted a 15-10 TD-to-INT ratio in '09. He's too inconsistent a passer with too weak receiver options to ever be more than a QB2, and the Jags may bring in competition this offseason, especially if Jack Del Rio is fired. Garrard, 32 in February, is due an $8 million salary in 2010.
 David Garrard-QB - Jaguars Dec. 27 - 3:40 pm et

David Garrard completed 19-of-25 passes for 185 yards and two interceptions and rushed for a four-yard touchdown in Week 16 against the Patriots.
Garrard injured his leg late, but stayed in to scramble for a score at the goal line. He then limped off the field and was replaced for the final minute of a 35-7 loss, so the seriousness of the injury is unclear.
