Chris Johnson has "pulled away" from Stanford Routt for the Raiders' starting left cornerback job.
Coach Tom Cable has made several defensive incumbents "earn" their jobs this summer. Johnson was the favorite all along after signing a long-term extension this offseason. He'll be tested often playing opposite Nnamdi Asomugha.

According to Raiders beat writer David White, Chris Johnson will win the left cornerback job.
Johnson was always favored to win the job, but was getting pushed by Stanford Routt. Routt was burned repeatedly Thursday night and seems to have fallen way behind Johnson.

Despite signing a new long-term contract in February, Raiders CB Chris Johnson is splitting first-team reps with Stanford Routt.
"We want to have competition everywhere that it's possible to have it," Cable said. "There's a pretty good battle right there." Johnson is the favorite to win the job.

Raiders re-signed CB Chris Johnson to a four-year contract.
For all the heat Al Davis takes, he still has an eye for talent. Johnson was the reason Davis felt comfortable dumping DeAngelo Hall last season and he delivered on his promise, picking off three passes and defending 12 in just seven starts. Johnson will open 2009 as Oakland's starting left corner.

The Raiders are reportedly closing in on a contract agreement with free agent CB Chris Johnson.
Johnson joined the starting lineup after DeAngelo Hall was cut last year and held up well, at times flashing shutdown ability. He should be very affordable. Johnson, 29, has never received an NFL salary above the minimum.
