Jaguars placed DE Reggie Hayward on injured reserve with a fractured shin, ending his season.
Not the way he wanted it in a contract year. 31 at the start of free agency next offseason, Hayward will likely have to take a deal for the minimum just to play in 2010. He hasn't been the same since a 2006 Achilles' tear.

Jaguars DE Reggie Hayward will miss the remainder of the season with a broken left shin.
He'll have surgery Friday and be placed on injured reserve. The Jags claim Hayward's injury isn't career ending, but his declining play, age (30, though he's looked older in recent seasons), and free agent status in 2010 all indicate that he may have played his last NFL snap. The Jags are using more 3-4 looks, so expect usual DT John Henderson to see more action at end.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said Monday that LE Reggie Hayward's lower left leg injury is "not a career-ender."
This statement doesn't shed much light on Hayward's status for the rest of this season. The Jags are obviously thinning at defensive end, although their switch to a 3-4 makes Derek Landri and John Henderson options outside.

Jaguars LE Reggie Hayward suffered a fracture of his lower left leg during Sunday's 14-12 loss to the Colts.
Hayward's season is in jeopardy if he needs surgery. The declining 30-year-old took a pay cut this offseason, which now appears to be a very good move for the Jags. It's just a guess, but we doubt he's back before midseason.

Jaguars DE Reggie Heyward revealed that he accepted a paycut from $5 million to $1.75 million this offseason.
"I didn't want to bounce around too much," said Hayward. "I like it here." The veteran would have been released like Tony Pashos and Brian Williams had he opted not to accept the cut. He'll be a free agent after the season.
