Teams often work out street free agents on Tuesdays, but it's worth noting this week with Kevin Smith's (shoulder) status up in the air. If the team signs Cason or Watson, it will be bad news for Smith's Week 4 status.

Cason has spent time on the Lions' roster from 2006-08. He can provide some value on special teams, either on coverage or as a kickoff-return man.

Lions re-signed RB Aveion Cason to a one-year contract.
Purely a special teamer, Cason will battle for a roster spot this offseason. It would be an upset if the 30-year-old journeyman gets a carry in 2009.
