The Jets blitzed on 297 passing plays during the 2009 regular season, the second highest total in the league.
Only the Eagles blitzed more. Opposing QBs had a miserable 53.8 rating against the Jets' blitzes, so it obviously was effective even if it didn't result in a boatload of sacks. New York's 32 QB takedowns ranked just 18th overall.

 Calvin Pace-LB - Jets Oct. 6 - 11:09 am et

Jets OLB Calvin Pace was back at practice Monday after being suspended for the first four games of the season.
"I wasn't going to kiss him on the lips," coach Rex Ryan said, "but I thought about it." Last year, Pace had seven sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. The Jets defense has played very well (No. 3 in the NFL) without Pace, but he'll undoubtedly help their pass rush. The Jets have just four sacks on the season.

According to Jets OLB Calvin Pace, a change on the NFL's banned substance list is at the heart of his four-game suspension.
"(It was) a workout supplement that I had previously taken before the banned substance list changed," Pace said. "I lapsed and I take full responsibility for it. (I need to) stay up on it and know what's banned and what's not banned."

 Vernon Gholston-LB - Jets Jul. 22 - 12:47 pm et

Head coach Rex Ryan has named Vernon Gholston the Jets' starting outside linebacker for the first four regular season games.
He'll fill in for suspended starter Calvin Pace. Ryan confirmed that Pace will regain his job when he returns, but expects "great strides" from Gholston and expects the 2008 No. 6 overall pick to "be a big reason in our successes moving forward." Bart Scott and David Harris will stay at inside linebacker.

 Calvin Pace-LB - Jets Jul. 2 - 3:00 pm et

NFL suspended Jets OLB Calvin Pace four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
It's a big blow to the Jets' defense. Pace is New York's top pass rusher, and early impressions of backup Vernon Gholston's second offseason aren't promising. Pace will be eligible to return in Week 5 against the Dolphins. Flexible coach Rex Ryan could adjust by using Bart Scott and Bryan Thomas outside with Jamaal Westerman and David Harris inside during Pace's time off. It's either that or Gholston is going to have to play a lot early in the season.
 Calvin Pace-LB - Jets Apr. 17 - 10:21 am et

The NY Daily News expects Calvin Pace's sack total to increase under new head coach Rex Ryan.
Pace had 80 tackles and five forced fumbles in his first Jet season, but only seven sacks. He'll be a threat for double digits in a Terrell Suggs role under Ryan. Pace's tackle count should also stay high as an every-down player.
