Cardinals OLB Bertrand Berry announced his retirement from football Thursday.
The 34-year-old was still an effective situational pass rusher in 2009. He finishes his career with 65 sacks, including a career-high 14 1/2 back in 2004 -- the third-highest single-season total in franchise history. Season-ending injuries struck Berry in his final three years, limiting him to 27 of 48 games.

The Cardinals have moved Chike Okeafor to weak outside linebacker, where he's listed as the starter opposite LOLB Clark Haggans.
Haggans will probably only be a two-down player, with either Bert Berry or rookie Cody Brown replacing him on nickel downs. Okeafor, who played on the strong side last year, is now at a more pass rusher-friendly position and is a decent bet to lead Arizona in sacks. He won't see double teams at ROLB.

Cardinals OLB Bertrand Berry says he skipped voluntary minicamps this spring because he needed the rest.
"I'm not a spring chicken, I'm a summer duck," Berry said. "You have to kind of treat your body accordingly." Berry is 34 and coming off his first (nearly) full season in five years, so we imagine he honestly was still a little sore.

Beat writer Kent Somers projects Clark Haggans to be the Cardinals' starting right outside linebacker, ahead of Bertrand Berry.
Haggans, 32, had just one sack last year while battling a Lisfranc sprain. Berry is a far superior blitzer, so Arizona must view Haggans as better against the run. Either way, this is an IDP situation to avoid. The Cards couldn't rely on injury-prone 2008 starter Travis LaBoy, but they're way weaker on paper here.

Cardinals OLB Bertrand Berry is skipping voluntary minicamps, apparently because he's upset with his contract.
Berry settled for a way below market one-year, $1 million deal in March. He notched five sacks and forced two fumbles last year off the bench, and has become a starter following Travis LaBoy's release. Still, it's hard to imagine the Cards upgrading a deal they signed off on less than four months ago.

Cardinals re-signed OLB Bertrand Berry to a one-year contract.
Berry turns 34 this offseason, but he can still be effective in a nickel rushing role. The Notre Dame alum scored five sacks and two forced fumbles last season. He will likely stay in a rotation at ROLB with Travis LaBoy.
