Coach John Harbaugh indicated that the Ravens will "try to do everything [they] can" to bring back free agent Derrick Mason.
Mason is contemplating retirement, but he's hinted that he'd return to Baltimore if they make it worth his while. Harbaugh's comments suggest the two sides will be able to find common ground this offseason.

 Derrick Mason-WR - Ravens Jan. 31 - 8:54 am et

Derrick Mason is expected "to try to work something out to remain in Baltimore," according to beat writer Aaron Wilson.
Wilson talked to Mason's agent, Lamont Smith, at the Senior Bowl. Smith said he will meet with Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome soon to discuss Mason's future. Mason, of course, says he is contemplating retirement but we suspect that the right deal for the free agent receiver will convince him to return.

According to beat writer Mike Preston, the Ravens would only bring Derrick Mason back as a No. 2 receiver.
The Ravens need a bigger, faster No. 1 receiver to push Mason down the depth chart and Mark Clayton out of the rotation. Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, Antonio Bryant, and Terrell Owens are expected to be available beginning in March.

 Ed Reed-DB - Ravens Jan. 19 - 12:14 pm et

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he expects both Ed Reed and Derrick Mason to return in 2010 as opposed to retiring.
Both veterans are still playing at a high level. Reed may need some time to get over the Ravens' playoff loss, but it's hard to picture him going out at age 31. Expect him to play through the painful nerve impingement in his neck in 2010. Mason has indicated that he will make a decision "quickly and definitively."

Free agent Derrick Mason indicated that he will make a decision on his playing future "quickly and definitively."
"It's still up in the air," he said. "You weigh the pros and the cons. If the pros outweigh the cons, then that's how you make your decision." Mason lobbied the Ravens for a raise last offseason, never got it, but still played all 17 games. He'd probably return to the team for a certain price, but made it clear that Baltimore is the only team he's likely to play for in 2010.

Impending free agent Derrick Mason said Monday that he is leaning toward retirement.
According to Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson, Mason initially told reporters Monday that he's "done," then backtracked by calling himself "60-40" to retire. The 36-year-old knows the Ravens desperately want him back, so he's slyly putting the ball back in their court. Baltimore needs the ageless wideout, even if it's as a No. 2 or slot receiver to complement the offseason addition of Anquan Boldin or Brandon Marshall.
