The Bills are reportedly set to hire Calgary Stampeders offensive coordinator George Cortez as quarterbacks coach.
It's a smart hire. Cortez's resume in the CFL boasts Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson and Henry Burris. He also tutored former first-round picks Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers at Cal from 2002-2006. The likely starting QB in Buffalo is not yet on the roster.

Bills named Curtis Modkins offensive coordinator and running backs coach.
Modkins will take a backseat to offensive-minded Chan Gailey in terms of game planning, but hiring the former line coach is another indication that Buffalo will lean toward a run-first approach instead of the Pistol Spread Gailey installed in 2008 with Kansas City. While Fred Jackson figures to keep the starting job, the Bills will likely need two backs for the scheme to work, increasing the odds that Marshawn Lynch lasts another year.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA Sports 910 in Phoenix reports Cardinals running backs coach Curtis Modkins will be named offensive coordinator for the Bills.
The Bills requested permission to interview Modkins earlier in the week, and the sides reached an agreement by Friday night. Modkins has a history with Gailey, as the two worked together at Georgia Tech and in Kansas City with the Chiefs for a combined seven years. Gailey will maintain play-calling duties in Buffalo.

Bills fired vice president of player personnel John Guy.
Guy was often criticized for his spotty record in free agent scouting, most notably the epic failure of 2007 that saw three offensive linemen signed for more than a combined $75M. He was a finalist with Buddy Nix for the team's GM job last month, and now finds himself out of work with Nix gaining control.

Bills hired Chan Gailey as head coach.
Gailey, 58, has been a coach for 34 years at the college and pro levels. He brings a versatile background, having employed offenses ranging from smash-mouth attacks to the Chiefs' Pistol Spread with Tyler Thigpen at QB in the second half of 2008. Time will tell what scheme he'll run in Buffalo. Though not a "sexy" hire, Gailey at least projects to improve a woeful offense. Buffalo's ranked in the bottom eight in total offense for seven straight years.

The Bills have called a press conference for 2PM ET Tuesday.
The presser is apparently being called for Chan Gailey, who is expected to be named Bills head coach. Bills brass did an excellent job of keeping private Gailey's candidacy, let alone impending hire. The move is not likely to be well received by the Buffalo fan base. Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will miss out on a head coaching job for the third consecutive offseason.
