During a radio interview that aired Tuesday morning, Julius Peppers said he doesn't want a long-term extension from the Panthers.
Panthers beat writer Darin Gantt says "it's becoming more and more clear that Peppers isn't going to be here next year." Peppers is upset that the Panthers are giving him and his agent the "silent treatment." Gantt suggests that the Panthers should put the franchise tag on Peppers with designs on trading him. The Eagles, Patriots and Falcons are rumored as possible landing spots.

 Julius Peppers-DL - Panthers Feb. 1 - 8:34 am et

Julius Peppers' agent, Carl Carey, doesn't think his client will be back with the Panthers next season.
Carey said the Panthers have "not made a single inquiry this offseason" about Peppers, an impending unrestricted free agent. "Julius wants to thank the Carolina fans and know their support has meant a lot to him over the years," Carey said. Peppers will fetch a hefty price tag on the open market in an uncapped year, with the Eagles, Falcons and Patriots among possible landing spots.

Julius Peppers said he "doesn't have a preference" about where he plays next season.
"I'm just trying to get on a team right now," Peppers said. "I just want to get a contract." Peppers' fate for 2010 is still very much up in the air. The Panthers could pay an absurd $20.1 million to put the franchise tag on Peppers again, do a long-term deal or let him walk without any compensation.

Beat writer Scott Fowler speculates that Julius Peppers has "about a 40 percent chance" to stay with the Panthers in 2010.
The Panthers won't let their franchise player walk without receiving compensation, so the belief must be that there's a team willing to meet Carolina's asking price while also extending Peppers long-term. In which case, we'd put the odds in favor of Peppers returning to Carolina for another season.

 Julius Peppers-DL - Panthers Jan. 7 - 8:08 pm et

The agent for free agent Julius Peppers said his client's issues with the Panthers from last offseason "don't currently exist."
The player rep is waiting for the Panthers to announce their plans for Peppers before commenting on the Pro Bowler's intentions. The Panthers can try for a long-term extension or slap the franchise tag on Peppers for a third straight season. They have until Feb. 25 to use the tag, which will cost a staggering $20.1M this year.

 Julius Peppers-DL - Panthers Dec. 30 - 8:38 am et

Julius Peppers would make $21.8196 million next season if the Panthers choose to franchise him once again.
The Panthers would be better off trying to trade Peppers, but they will probably have to just let him go. There are too many holes and depth issues on the team to be paying one guy that much money.
