Eagles LB Akeem Jordan is expected to stay in the middle again this week after making his "MIKE" debut last week.
Coordinator Sean McDermott pointed to continuity as a reason for keeping Will Witherspoon on the weak side instead of returning Jordan to his natural position. Jordan is the seventh player to play MLB for the Eagles this season.

Eagles coordinator Sean McDermott has refused to name a starting middle linebacker this week.
Akeem Jordan (knee) is expected to return this week, would seem to put Will Witherspoon back at MIKE while sending Joe Mays to the bench. The Eagles may give Jordan another week, though, before handing him starter's snaps.

According to beat writer Jeff McLane, "all signs are pointing to" Joe Mays starting at middle linebacker for the Eagles this week.
Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott admitted that Chris Gocong had a rough game in the middle and would likely head back to the strong side. Will Witherspoon is staying on the weak side, so rookie Moise Fokou will head back to the bench. Mays is solid in the run game, but the Eagles may need Witherspoon to move back to the middle on passing downs.

Eagles linebacker Will Witherspoon is moving to the weakside this week, with Chris Gocong taking over the middle and rookie Moise Fokou at strongside.
Witherspoon has played well as the MIKE since the deadline trade, so this move comes as a surprise. We're guessing it could be temporary in nature, as Fokou likely only knows how to play SLB. Once Akeem Jordan (knee) returns to the lineup, the changes could be reversed. In the meantime, the move is a drain on Witherspoon's IDP value.

Eagles MLB Omar Gaither needs surgery to repair a Lisfranc sprain in his foot and he is done for the year.
The Eagles already lost Stewart Bradley (knee) for the year in the preseason and Joe Mays has been inactive due to performance. Jeremiah Trotter has looked downright bad since being signed off the street. Will Witherspoon, who they picked up at the trade deadline, has a lot of pressure on his shoulders now. Gaither heads into 2010 free agency with more questions than answers about his play against the pass and his health.

Will Witherspoon confirmed that he will be the Eagles' starting middle linebacker immediately following his trade to Philadelphia.
'Spoon has a bruised tailbone, but it won't stop him from starting against the Redskins. The trade was a coup for Philadelphia, which gets a highly athletic linebacker who just turned 29, is a skilled blitzer, and already knows the system. He'll be an every-down player and an instant IDP asset.
