Texans beat writer John McClain speculates that Rex Grossman won't be back with the Texans next season.

Dan Orlovsky is expected to be Matt Schaub's backup in 2010. Grossman will try to find work as a No. 2 man elsewhere, but he will struggle. 30 before next season, Grossman looked incredibly unprepared in spot action this past year.

Rex Grossman-QB - Texans

Rex Grossman completed 3-of-9 passes for 33 yards and an interception in brief relief of Matt Schaub during Houston's Week 13 loss.

Grossman struggled badly in roughly one quarter of action while Matt Schaub was being fitted for a harness on his injured left (non-throwing) shoulder. Horribly inaccurate, a number of Grossman's passes sailed high or wide of their intended targets. Grossman would not be a fantasy option in standard leagues if Schaub had to miss time moving forward.

Rex Grossman has won the Texans' backup quarterback job over Dan Orlovsky.

This was expected as Grossman is the better quarterback. He proved it in the preseason finale, going 9-of-16 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. There's a very good chance Grossman will be pressed into action this year as he will play behind the fragile Matt Schaub.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said the competition between Rex Grossman and Dan Orlovsky for the No. 2 QB job is still up in the air.

This is a big decision because there's an excellent chance Matt Schaub will miss games this season. Grossman is more talented but Orlovsky has had a nice camp. Kubiak said he would make a decision this week.

Rex Grossman completed 9-of-16 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs Friday night.

Grossman led scoring drives on each of his first four possessions while Dan Orlovsky managed to go just 5-of-7 for 51 yards and an interception. Grossman has had his troubles, but he's a better QB than Orlovsky. Stay tuned this week for a depth chart update.

Texans No. 3 quarterback Rex Grossman has recovered from his hamstring pull and will play in the preseason finale.

Rex has been out since the exhibition opener. He's still a safe bet to make the final roster behind Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky. Schaub's tendency to get injured makes keeping three quarterbacks a necessity for Houston.
