Mike Brown | Defensive Back

TEAM: Kansas City Chiefs
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5'10 / 207
DOB: 2/13/1978
AGE:31
COLLEGE:Nebraska
CONTRACT INFO: 2010: Free Agent

Chiefs waived SS Bernard Pollard.
Another failed Herm Edwards/Carl Peterson high pick, Pollard struggled in coverage throughout his three-year stint in K.C. He's an explosive hitter, though, and could help a team as an in-the-box safety. With only a $530,000 salary, Pollard shouldn't clear waivers. The Chiefs will now turn to Mike Brown as their full-time strong safety. We doubt he holds up for 12 games.

The Chiefs are reportedly shopping SS Bernard Pollard.
The Chiefs want to get 31-year-old Mike Brown into the starting lineup because he's outplayed Pollard in camp. Pollard has been one of the team's best defenders the past two seasons, which is damning with faint praise. Still, it's fair to question the direction of this team, which is lacking nucleus talent on both sides of the ball.

Newly acquired safety Mike Brown has not made a serious push to start in Chiefs training camp.
It's the best scenario for all parties. Brown, 31, is too injury prone to be relied on as a full-time player and the new Chiefs front office can use a full season to evaluate Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard -- both in contract years.

Chiefs SS Bernard Pollard anticipates playing close to the line of scrimmage in new coordinator Clancy Pendergast's defense.
He's also holding off Mike Brown for the starting job, laying some big hits on ball carriers in camp. A bone-crushing tackler, Pollard is best utilized as an "in the box" safety. Pendergast's last one of those was Adrian Wilson.

According to the K.C. Star, SS Bernard Pollard is at more risk of losing his starting job to newly acquired Mike Brown than is FS Jarrad Page.
The club would be better off if its young safeties kept their jobs, but Brown can play both safety spots and Pollard's tackling has been inconsistent over the last two years. Of course, you wouldn't know it by checking the box score.

Chiefs signed S Mike Brown, formerly of the Bears.
The KC Star's report says Brown "could" swipe Jarrad Page or Bernard Pollard's starting job, but he's more likely to be a third safety. It's the role he's best suited for at age 31 with a long history of unreliable health. A onetime Pro Bowler (2005) and Chicago's all-time leader in defensive TDs (7), Brown can play both safety spots. There's a lot to like about this pickup.
