ESPN's Chris Mortensen is confident that there's nothing physically wrong with Carson Palmer's right arm.
"I don't hear a lot of negative stuff from people in the league about Carson," Mortensen said. "You've got to surround him with weapons. He's absolutely OK." While it's true that the lack of a legit No. 2 WR and a receiving tight end hurt his production, it's also true that Palmer's accuracy and velocity were noticeably off in 2009.

 Cedric Benson-RB - Bengals Jan. 10 - 11:29 pm et

Coach Marvin Lewis indicated at his season-ending press conference Sunday that the Bengals will remain a run-first team in 2010.
Cedric Benson, in particular, will like this as he heads into the final year of his contract. Carson Palmer also said he was fine with the ground game being featured on offense. The Bengals finished 2009 ranked ninth overall in rushing. Only the Jets, Panthers, and Dolphins had more rush attempts.

Carson Palmer indicated after Saturday's season-ending loss that he will undergo surgery on his left thumb in the next couple of days.
The injury to Palmer's non-throwing thumb has affected his ability to hand off over the second half of the season, but it hasn't been an issue with his passing.

 Carson Palmer-QB - Bengals Jan. 9 - 8:04 pm et

Carson Palmer completed just 18-of-36 passes for 146 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Jets in Saturday's playoff opening loss.
Palmer started out throwing high, and he continued to misfire badly throughout the game. The national audience seemed surprised by Palmer's poor play, but he's been a mediocre quarterback all season. His accuracy and arm strength haven't been the same since last year's elbow injury, which explains Cincy's run-heavy approach all season. The Bengals will have to spend the offseason figuring out if Palmer's issues are the result of poor mechanics or an injured wing.
 Carson Palmer-QB - Bengals Jan. 4 - 11:57 am et

Carson Palmer set an NFL record Sunday night for the most passing attempts (11) in a game without gaining a single yard.
The offense set a franchise record for least yards gained with 72. Palmer's poor play of late has been excused by the Bengals' run-heavy offensive attack, but he's simply not the same quarterback he once was. He's struggled to get the ball down field and doesn't appear to have the same arm strength. The Jets' dominant pass defense will be a stiff challenge again this week.

 Carson Palmer-QB - Bengals Jan. 3 - 10:33 pm et

Carson Palmer completed just 1-of-11 passes for zero yards and an interception before being replaced in the second half Sunday.
Palmer and the offense couldn't get anything going in the first half and actually headed to the locker room with just seven net yards. With Cedric Benson inactive and Chad Ochocinco hobbled by a knee injury, it made little sense for Palmer to be out on the field. The Bengals will get another try against the Jets in the first round of the playoffs.
