The Browns dismissed former team president Mike Keenan and chief contract negotiator Dawn Aponte from the club on Friday night.
Keenan became president in 2008 and was the one who introduced Eric Mangini when the Browns decided to hire him as their coach, but when Mike Holmgren came to the organization Keenan was demoted to chief financial officer. Aponte is reportedly leaving the team to join the Dolphins.

Browns named Tom Heckert general manager.
Heckert, the Eagles' GM from 2006-2009, has an extensive background at the personnel level. He was Philly's VP of football operations prior to being GM and served as Dolphins director of pro personnel from 1991-2001. Club president Mike Holmgren will likely have "final say" on most matters, but Heckert was given full control of 53-man roster decisions.

The Browns will reportedly name Tom Heckert their new GM on Monday.
They may also hire Seahawks director of pro personnel Will Lewis in a lower-level capacity. Lewis interviewed for the GM job on Friday, but Heckert got it. Heckert has been the GM in Philadelphia since 2006, but always lacked "final say" with regard to the Eagles' roster. It remains to be seen if he'll have those responsibilities under president Mike Holmgren in Cleveland.

Profootballtalk.com reports that Eagles GM Tom Heckert is expected to join the Browns' front office "soon."
PFT editor Mike Florio even suggests Heckert could be signed before the end of Philadelphia's playoff run. Heckert's hire would've ramped up Marty Mornhinweg-to-Cleveland rumors had Browns club president Mike Holmgren not already committed to Eric Mangini. Mornhinweg could still be a leading candidate for the job after next season, assuming Mangini flounders.

The Seahawks granted the Browns permission to interview director of pro personnel Will Lewis for their general manager position.
New Browns czar Mike Holmgren obviously knows Lewis from their days together in Seattle. Tom Heckert and Randy Mueller are other options to be Holmgren's right-hand man for the next few years.

The Eagles have reportedly granted the Browns permission to interview GM Tom Heckert for the same position in Cleveland.
If hired, Heckert would work under Mike Holmgren similar to the setup in Miami, with Jeff Ireland answering to football czar Bill Parcells. Interestingly, Heckert interviewed for the same position with the Browns in early January last year before the team ultimately chose George Kokinis. Holmgren is expected to choose between Heckert and Randy Mueller this week, with coach Eric Mangini likely axed.
