Raiders coach Tom Cable didn't rule out bringing back free agent QB Jeff Garcia.
According to Cable, Garcia asked for his release before Week 1, so it's hard to believe the veteran QB would want to go back. But when asked, Cable said, "We haven’t talked about it at this point. That’s all I can say right now." Garcia will probably land with a team sooner rather than later. St. Louis and Carolina make some sense.

Eagles released QB Jeff Garcia.
Since Garcia was signed, Michael Vick has returned from suspension and Kevin Kolb has emerged as a valuable backup. The Eagles don't want to carry four quarterbacks, and Donovan McNabb is currently expected to return to action after the bye week. Garcia could be an option in St. Louis as he has ties to coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Jeff Garcia's contract is guaranteed for two weeks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Another sign that Donovan McNabb may not be ready for next week, either. We doubt Garcia will stay on the roster, though, once McNabb is healthy and Michael Vick is active.

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Thursday that if Kevin Kolb starts, he's the quarterback for the whole game.
We'll see. Assuming Donovan McNabb can't play, Jeff Garcia will be ready to go if Kolb fails. Kolb has seven turnovers and zero touchdowns in his NFL career, so speculation is rampant that his leash will be short Sunday.

Eagles coach Andy Reid confirmed Wednesday that Kevin Kolb will start Week 2 against New Orleans if Donovan McNabb (ribs) can't play.
Reid still isn't ruling McNabb out, but nearly every sign points to him missing the game. Considering his track record in these types of opportunities, Kolb would be a poor bet to last longer than two quarters against a vastly improved Saints defense. Jeff Garcia will be Kolb's backup on Sunday and is well versed in the offense. He will step in if/when Kolb falters.

The Eagles have taken Michael Vick off the exempt list. He will begin practicing on Wednesday.
There hasn't been any indication that Donovan McNabb will be out longer than a week or two with his rib injury, but the team may be getting Vick ready as a fallback scenario. Kevin Kolb has failed to impress, and Jeff Garcia may not have much left in the tank. Vick is eligible for game action beginning in Week 3.
