Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates indicated that he's "excited" about Julius Jones and Justin Forsett in the Seahawks backfield.
Bates believes both backs fit the zone-blocking system well. He added that his days in Denver proved great running backs can be acquired in the late rounds of the draft. Clemson's C.J. Spilled is popularly "mocked" to Seattle with the No. 14 overall pick, but the team may be leery of drafting a back that high.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, zone-blocking guru Alex Gibbs will be joining Pete Carroll's staff in Seattle as the offensive line coach.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has now whiffed on Gibbs and Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. Gibbs' hire is good news for the Seahawks' ground game, though it's possible that the 2010 starter is not on the current roster. Julius Jones is a candidate for release, and Justin Forsett is likely seen as a long-term role player.

The 2009 Seahawks were the first team Greg Knapp has been the offensive coordinator for that didn't finish in the top ten in rushing.
They were 15th. An injury-ruined offensive line didn't help, but the coaching staff's odd allegiance to Julius Jones over Justin Forsett was the nail in the coffin. Jones finished with a 3.7 YPC average. Forsett's YPC was 5.4.

Julius Jones ran for 61 yards on 14 carries and caught a three-yard pass in Seattle's Week 17 loss.
He ends with a 3.74 YPC average -- similar to the uninspiring marks Jones routinely posted as a Cowboy. A replacement-level back at this stage of his career, Jones is a candidate for offseason release. He's due a $2.45 million base salary in 2010, and the Seahawks are sure to upgrade this spring.

Julius Jones (ribs, ankle) returned to a full practice on Friday and is on track to play in Week 17.
"It looks like Julius will be good to go," coach Jim Mora said. "He did everything...he looked good. His ribs feel OK, as good as they can feel right now. His foot was the main thing and he seemed to get through that OK." Jones will share touches with Justin Forsett against the Titans.

Julius Jones (ribs, ankle) missed practice again Thursday.
The voodoo doll owned by Justin Forsett owners may have finally worked, albeit one week too late. Jones is looking like a longshot for this week's game against the Titans, which would make Forsett a viable RB2 as the starter. Check back Friday to be sure.
