Broncos ILB D.J. Williams (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday, after missing the first day of training camp for unknown reasons.
Williams was initially placed on active/PUP, but he's back in action. At Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis' old inside linebacker spot in Mike Nolan's system, Williams' weekly production should remain near at least an IDP LB2 level.

Broncos LBs D.J. Williams (shoulder surgery) and Wesley Woodyard will begin training camp on active/PUP.

Broncos ILB D.J. Williams (shoulder surgery) is expected to be cleared for limited participation in OTAs Wednesday.
Williams underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in late January. He's expected to play the "Mike" inside linebacker in Mike Nolan's new 3-4 scheme. Williams will remain highly productive -- a candidate for 110+ tackles.

 D.J. Williams-LB - Broncos Apr. 25 - 3:06 am et

The Broncos confirmed that D.J. Williams will play weak inside linebacker, or the "Mike" in their new 3-4 defensive scheme.
IDP leaguers take note. Under new coordinator Mike Nolan, this was Pat Willis' position in San Francisco and Ray Lewis' in Baltimore. Teams are still going to run on Denver often and Williams will regain 120+ tackle potential.

 D.J. Williams-LB - Broncos Feb. 18 - 8:47 am et

D.J. Williams reworked his contract to provide the Broncos with $3.6 million in cap relief.
Williams had a $4.5 million roster bonus due March 2, but it's now being converted to a signing bonus prorated over the length of the contract. The club is now over $30M in cap savings this week.

Though the Broncos will eventually make the full conversion to a 3-4 defense, they are expected to use a 4-3/3-4 hybrid for the 2009 season.
New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan used a hybrid in San Francisco. The '09 scheme will look similar to Nolan's 49ers squads and the Cardinals' hybrid format under Clancy Pendergast.
