Lions RE Dewayne White (hamstring) is expected to miss Week 6.
White was unable to put in a full practice all week. He is Detroit's most proven pass rusher. Expect recently signed Turk McBride to start at right defensive end against the Packers. It's promising news for Aaron Rodgers' matchup.

 Dewayne White-DL - Lions Oct. 2 - 5:51 pm et

The Lions anticipate being without both starting RE Dewayne White (hamstring) and DT Sammie Lee Hill (ankle) Sunday against Chicago. They're listed as doubtful.
As if Jay Cutler and Matt Forte's matchups could get any better. The awfully banged up Lions have also listed LE Cliff Avril (hamstring), WLB Ernie Sims (shoulder), and DT Grady Jackson (knee) as questionable. Detroit has no depth, so expect the Bears to rack up the points on Sunday.

 Cliff Avril-DL - Lions Sep. 2 - 10:42 pm et

Cliff Avril will open the season as Detroit's starting left defensive end, with Dewayne White on the right side.
At 6'3/251, Avril will be one of the league's smallest strong-side ends. Teams that start undersized left ends are typically poor against the run, but the Lions are used to that. Avril could be washed out of plays easily with chip blocks.

 Jared DeVries-DL - Lions Aug. 10 - 2:41 pm et

Lions DE Jared DeVries will miss the 2009 season after rupturing his Achilles' tendon in a goal-line drill Monday morning.
It's the third Achilles' tear through two weeks of NFL training camp (Reggie Kelly and Ma'ake Kemoeatu were the others), and career-threatening for DeVries, 33. The loss hurts the Lions' depth, but may be a blessing in disguise. Detroit can now get its top two pass rushers on the field; Dewayne White will likely kick to left defensive end with Cliff Avril on the weak side.

 Dewayne White-DL - Lions Jun. 30 - 12:26 pm et

Cliff Avril will reportedly have to beat out Dewayne White to win the Lions' starting right defensive end job.
Starting Avril and White at the same time would give Detroit its most pass rush potential, but the new coaching staff seems satisfied with Jared DeVries at left end. White has the tools to move there full time, but surprisingly didn't practice on the strong side all spring. He and Avril will probably end up rotating on the weak side, which would hurt both of their IDP stats.

 Dewayne White-DL - Lions Dec. 11 - 8:53 am et

Lions DE Dewayne White is expected to return Week 15 after missing four games with a calf strain.
The winless Lions will need all hands on deck as they try to slow down the Colts. They're also getting back CB Keith Smith (groin), who has missed four games.
