Jim Sorgi (injured reserve, shoulder) said he felt "great" about a week or two after landing on IR and has been throwing ever since.
Sorgi maintains that he could have played late in the season. If so, there's a much better chance that the Colts would have been undefeated. Sorgi will obviously be fine for the offseason program.

Beat writer Mike Chappell says that the Colts won't give up on Curtis Painter yet and he'll be back next season.
Painter may be back, but it probably won't be as the No. 2 quarterback after his wretched display in spot duty this season. The Colts will turn back to Jim Sorgi (injured reserve, shoulder) as Peyton Manning's backup. They are praying nothing happens to Manning in the playoffs.

Sorgi remains optimistic he'll be ready to play by next summer. Peyton Manning's clipboard holder is signed through 2010.

Despite a promising showing this preseason, Colts sixth-round QB Curtis Painter is in danger of being left off the final roster.
The Colts haven't carried a third QB since 2004, so Painter would likely have to supplant Jim Sorgi as the No. 2 to crack the final 53. The Colts run the risk of losing Painter on waivers if they try to stash him on the practice squad. Stay tuned.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell confirmed that Jim Sorgi remains the No. 2 quarterback behind Peyton Manning.
Rookie sixth-rounder Curtis Painter has been impressive in preseason action, but Sorgi will maintain the right to mop up in Week 17.
