Free agent Derrick Brooks is still staying in shape and hoping to get a call from an NFL team this offseason.
Brooks, 36, sat out the entire 2009 season even though he wanted to play. He got a couple looks from the Saints and Bears but was never offered a contract. It's unlikely anything will change this offseason.

NFL.com's Jason La Canfora confirms that the Bears have no plans to sign free agent LB Derrick Brooks.
Brooks had a great career, but he isn't going to change any teams' fortunes at age 36. He'll likely close out the season on the set of ESPN2's First Take.

If Hunter Hillenmeyer has a broken rib, the Bears could change their stance on free agent LB Derrick Brooks.
Coach Lovie Smith said last week that the Bears had no plans to bring in a veteran linebacker. But Hillenmeyer left Sunday's game with a rib injury, forcing Nick Roach to move to the middle. Brooks will be keeping an eye on Hillenmeyer's X-rays.

Bears coach Lovie Smith said he was very happy with the way his new starting linebackers, Hunter Hillenmeyer and Nick Roach, played in the Week 2 win over the Steelers.
The Bears held off on signing free agent Derrick Brooks to see what they had in their backups. Now that they've played well, that contract for Brooks doesn't look like it's coming. He'd better get comfortable on ESPN2.

Former Bucs OLB Derrick Brooks has signed a deal with ESPN2 to be a football analyst for the station's First Take program.
He will almost certainly keep his playing options open, but no signing with New England appears to be imminent. Brooks turned 36 this past April.

According to the Boston Herald, the Patriots are "kicking around" the idea of bringing in veteran LB Derrick Brooks.
The Patriots have a need with star ILB Jerod Mayo (knee) out indefinitely. Brooks, 36, was rumored to be headed to the Bears to help replace Brian Urlacher, but Chicago chose to hold off. If they do sign Brooks, we highly doubt he would be a full-time player. He'd likely rotate outside with Pierre Woods and Eric Alexander.
