New Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is "eager to draft and develop a young quarterback," a league source tells Jason Reid of the Washington Post.
This doesn't mean that Jason Campbell won't be back in 2010, but it does mean that Shanahan doesn't view the restricted free agent as the long-term answer. Most mocks have the Redskins taking Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen with the No. 4 overall pick.

The Washington Post reiterates that the Redskins are expected to bring back restricted free agent Jason Campbell in 2010.
Though new coach Mike Shanahan doesn't believe Campbell is a long-term solution and plans to draft a quarterback high in April, Campbell will remain the team's best option at least to open the year. To retain him, the Skins will only need a low tender because Campbell was a first-round pick in 2005.

According to the Washington Post, new Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is not "bowled over" by Jason Campbell.
Shanny reportedly doesn't like Campbell's mechanics and doesn't believe he's a long-term solution. Campbell could draw interest from QB-needy teams as a restricted free agent, and the Redskins could use draft-pick compensation. There's also a chance that he stays in D.C. on a one-year deal.

A league source tells the Washington Post that new Redskins coach Mike Shanahan plans to retain Jason Campbell.
Campbell will be familiar with most of Shanahan's terminology after playing in a somewhat similar West Coast-style offense under Jim Zorn. Shanahan, though, is expected to use the Skins' No. 4 overall draft pick on a quarterback. Campbell wouldn't be a good bet to start 16 games in Washington next season, and may draw interest on the restricted free agent market.

Clinton Portis took a shot at Jason Campbell's leadership Tuesday, seemingly agreeing with the sentiment that the quarterback never took control of the huddle.
For clarity's sake, Portis also had praise for his quarterback, saying Campbell would "get up, dust himself off ... [and] give you everything he got." Portis' criticism was limited to Campbell's stoicism and lack of verbal encouragement, ostensibly because Portis believed he should have been named offensive captain instead.

Jason Campbell completed 28-of-42 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers in Week 17.
With the running game shut down once again, Campbell was left to carry the offense. Bypassing David Garrard to finish 14th among fantasy quarterbacks, Campbell passed for a career-high 3,618 yards and 20 touchdowns behind a feeble offensive line. The Redskins reportedly have their eyes on Oklahoma's Sam Bradford, which would put restricted free agent Campbell's tenure in doubt. He could be available in trade for the Rams, Bills, Browns, Niners, and Raiders.
