TEAM: Arizona Cardinals
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'5' / 232
DOB: 5/11/1983
AGE:26
COLLEGE:USC
CONTRACT INFO: 8/14/2006: Signed a six-year, $50.8 million contract. Details
 Chad Pennington-QB- DolphinsFeb. 4 - 9:26 am et
Free agent Chad Pennington (shoulder surgery) "has decided to make it his priority to stay with the Dolphins," according to the Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington.
Pennington is willing to back up Chad Henne, and the Dolphins will "entertain the possibility" only after they see him throw -- specifically a 15-yard out route. His shoulder was discovered to have only damage to the labrum and the shoulder capsule, leading to expectations of a full recovery. If Miami opts against re-signing him (Pat White and Tyler Thigpen are under contract), the Cardinals are believed to have interest in Pennington as veteran insurance behind Matt Leinart.

 Matt Leinart-QB - Cardinals Feb. 2 - 5:18 pm et

Cardinals GM Rod Graves has seconded coach Ken Whisenhunt's confidence in Matt Leinart as the team's starting quarterback.
"I think he's going to answer a lot of questions," said Graves. While both men insist they're "excited" about Leinart taking over, Kurt Warner revealed Tuesday that he was offered the opportunity to skip offseason practices and part of training camp as an enticement to return for one more season. The confidence in Leinart may seem forced, but the team does appear ready to hand him the keys to the offense now that Warner is gone.

 Matt Leinart-QB - Cardinals Jan. 30 - 5:52 pm et

Coach Ken Whisenhunt expressed confidence in Matt Leinart following Kurt Warner's retirement Friday.
"What I think back to is the second half in the preseason when he threw for 300 yards [against the Packers]," Whisenhunt said. "Matt's not a rookie. He's been in this offense for three years." The Cardinals appear ready to turn the offense over to Leinart as opposed to importing a veteran this offseason. They need to see if the 2006 first-rounder can be the solution before his $12.9M tab comes due next offseason.

 Matt Leinart-QB - Cardinals Jan. 29 - 3:17 pm et

Matt Leinart ascends to the starting quarterback job in Arizona following Kurt Warner's retirement.
The former No. 10 overall pick finally has control of the offense five years after he was drafted. With a slow release, even slower feet, and a questionable arm, Leinart will have to prove his detractors wrong and win the confidence of his receivers in 2010. Due a combined $12.9M in 2011, Leinart basically has a one-year window to put his stamp on the starting job. With as much skill-position talent as any team in the league, the Cardinals have at least set him up for success.
 Kurt Warner-QB - Cardinals Jan. 28 - 11:46 am et

Updating a previous item, Kurt Warner has been in contact with the Cardinals and has kept them up-to-date on his plans for Friday's press conference.
Warner is fully expected to announce his retirement from football at the 3:00 p.m. ET press conference Friday. The Cardinals will turn the offense over to Matt Leinart, whose salary increases from $2.5M in 2010 to $7.4M in 2011 with a $5.5M roster bonus. Leinart will have one year to prove he can handle the job for the leading NFC West contender.

 Brian St. Pierre-QB - Cardinals Jan. 28 - 9:37 am et

Impending free agent QB Brian St. Pierre may need back surgery this offseason.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt has already indicated that Matt Leinart would take over as the starter if Kurt Warner retires (as expected), so the Cardinals will be in the market for a veteran No. 2 QB. St. Pierre has the requisite experience in Whiz's offense, but the Cardinals may want more of a sure thing with an unknown commodity as the starter.
