The Bengals are expected to approach Cedric Benson about a contract extension this offseason.
Benson is due $2.65 million in 2010, the year last on his current deal. He missed three games due to injury in '09, but established career highs in every rushing category and won't be 28 until the end of next season. The Bengals shouldn't make him one of the league's highest paid running backs, but a two- to three-year extension in the $10-14 million range might work.

Coach Marvin Lewis indicated at his season-ending press conference Sunday that the Bengals will remain a run-first team in 2010.
Cedric Benson, in particular, will like this as he heads into the final year of his contract. Carson Palmer also said he was fine with the ground game being featured on offense. The Bengals finished 2009 ranked ninth overall in rushing. Only the Jets, Panthers, and Dolphins had more rush attempts.

Cedric Benson laid torch to the Jets defense for 169 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries while adding three receptions for 12 yards.
The week of rest did Benson well. As the only effective member of the Bengals offense, Benson showed great change of direction, quick feet, and impressive acceleration. Breaking free for a 47-yard touchdown against the Jets' blitz, Benson nearly brought the Bengals back into the game in the fourth quarter. With another year left on his contract, Benson will return as the offensive focal point again in 2010.

Bengals declared RB Cedric Benson, QB Jordan Palmer, S Chris Crocker, FB Fui Vakapuna, TE J.P. Foschi, DE Robert Geathers, DT Domata Peko and C Jonathan Luigs inactive for Sunday Night Football against the Jets.
Carson Palmer is active and is expected to start, but the Bengals are taking it easy and resting most of their impact players in Week 17.

The AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals were shut out of the Pro Bowl altogether.
Leon Hall was flat-out robbed, and fellow cornerback Jonathan Joseph had a strong argument as well. Cedric Benson faced tough competition at running back, with Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, and Maurice Jones-Drew all deserving their nods. Dhani Jones was a longshot at middle linebacker.

Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson speculates that Cedric Benson and Carson Palmer will "hardly play, if they play at all" Sunday against the Jets.
The Bengals will know by late Sunday afternoon whether they have the No. 3 or the No. 4 seed, and Marvin Lewis has indicated that he's willing to wait for the results to roll in before he finalizes a plan. The Bengals are in an interesting situation, though, as a team with precious few prime time appearances.
