Saints placed LT Jammal Brown (hip, sports hernia) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Brown underwent sports hernia surgery in late August and then followed it up with an early September hip surgery. He was originally expected to return around mid-season. Brown obviously wasn't missed in the first two games, but his fill-in Jermon Bushrod injured his ankle against a pressuring Bills defense in Week 3. The Saints' best lineman, Brown is a free agent after the season and will likely be brought back on a relatively cheap, short-term deal.

According to FoxSports.com's Alex Marvez, Saints LT Jammal Brown will be sidelined until at least Week 6 after undergoing hip surgery.
Brown was already out through Week 2 with a sports hernia, and now he'll be sidelined an extra month. He's the team's most athletic lineman, so it's a mild concern for Drew Brees that Jermon Bushrod will be guarding his blindside, although Brees' quick release gives Bushrod a large margin for error. With the injuries piling up, Brown could be less than 100 percent all year.

In addition to his sports hernia, Saints LT Jammal Brown has an injured hip.
He's out for at least New Orleans' first two games, which Jermon Bushrod will start. Brown is currently in Philadelphia for a post-surgery checkup. Bushrod's progress leaves us only mildly concerned about Brown's loss.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune confirms that Saints LT Jammal Brown (sports hernia) is almost certainly out for Week 1.
We're not expecting him back before Week 3. Brown will try to get medical clearance from his surgeon in "a couple of weeks." The injury threatens to nag him all season. Luckily, the Saints have multiple capable alternatives.

Jermon Bushrod is expected to be the Saints' starting left tackle on opening day if Jammal Brown (sports hernia) isn't ready.
Brown is one of the game's most talented blind-side tackles, but Bushrod has held up very nicely in the preseason and is highly athletic, which is good for pass protection. He'll be getting the nod over Zach Strief.

Saints LT Jammal Brown is out indefinitely after undergoing sports hernia surgery.
The procedure usually requires a 4-8 week recovery period, putting the first month of the season in doubt for Brown. Zach Strief is an able backup, but Brown is a Pro Bowl talent. While it's not a debilitating blow to the Saints offense, it's another factor to consider in the Drew Brees vs. Tom Brady debate.
