Rams LT Alex Barron is expected to rejoin the starting lineup after being benched in the third quarter last week.
Barron was replaced by John Greco. It sounds like coach Steve Spagnuolo just got caught up in the moment when he benched Barron, because he sounds apologetic about it now. "What happened on Sunday is not where we're going with this team," Spags said. "By that I mean somebody makes a mistake, you're pulled out of the game."

Coach Steve Spagnuolo benched LT Alex Barron in the third quarter of the 49ers' romping of the Rams.
Barron was not injured, he was just simply removed in favor of John Greco. This is not a good sign for Barron, as it is his contract year and he is trying to prove he can start in this league. The Rams might as well be terrible with their youngsters getting playing time.

Beat writer Bill Coats expects Alex Barron to remain the Rams' starting left tackle when the season opens.
Barron, 27, is in a contract year and could significantly increase his 2010 market value if he performs well on Marc Bulger's blind side. Rookie Jason Smith's superior strength will come in handy at right tackle, although he'll likely move to the left side eventually. It just may not happen this season.

Alex Barron remains the favorite to be St. Louis' opening-day left tackle, according to ESPN's Mike Sando.
St. Louis will "ease" top draft pick Jason Smith in as a right tackle, where his strength will be a big upgrade. Barron's athleticism and long arms fit well on the blind side, and he's played his best games there. Perhaps going back to his natural position will also help Barron cut down on his false starts.

The Rams will use No. 2 overall pick Jason Smith at right tackle to begin offseason minicamps.
Usual RT Alex Barron will be on Marc Bulger's blind side. Left tackle is actually Barron's best position, so it's possible he'll stay there into the year. Smith will need to improve his run blocking to be effective on the right.

Rams selected Baylor LT Jason Smith with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
St. Louis would've loved Mark Sanchez, but Marc Bulger's contract made that impossible. Smith, recruited as a tight end and highly athletic, was a rare All American from Baylor as a senior and the most impressive tackle at the Combine. He is a ready-made pass blocker. The Rams do still like Alex Barron on the left side though, so it's possible Smith will begin his career at right tackle, where he played as a college sophomore.
