Defensive ends will make the biggest jump of any position in this year's franchise tag numbers.
Thanks to Julius Peppers' $16.68M salary last season, the defensive end price tag will increase from $8.99M to $12.398M. Running backs also see a nice jump, from $6.62M to $8.156M. The Raiders now have extra incentive to agree to a long-term deal with Richard Seymour while the Chargers figure out if Darren Sproles is worth over $8M in 2010.

With no collective bargaining agreement in sight, Darren Sproles is due a 10 percent raise on the $6.6 million he earned in 2009.
The Chargers have five big-name players -- and 12 players total -- who stand to be restricted free agents this offseason. GM A.J. Smith will have to pony up $7.3M to keep Sproles for one more season before he hits free agency. He'll be an expensive luxury as a passing-down back and return specialist.

Darren Sproles ran for 33 yards on three carries and caught three passes for 30 yards in the Chargers' playoff loss to the Jets.
He averaged 10.5 yards per touch compared to LaDainian Tomlinson's 1.6, but the Chargers stubbornly continued to run LT into the pile. Sproles' misuse wasn't surprising only because a similar scenario played out in the regular season, when he averaged 6.09 yards per touch to LT's 3.64. LT may be cut this spring, but the Chargers are more likely to bring in another lead back than hand the role to Sproles, who GM A.J. Smith doesn't see as an early-down runner. Sproles will still be retained with an expensive RFA tender.

Darren Sproles rushed just twice for 18 yards against the Redskins in Week 17.
The Chargers didn't want to risk an injury to their explosive returner/third-down back, so Sproles watched the final three quarters from the sidelines. San Diego's franchise player will be looking for a long-term deal again this offseason. GM A.J. Smith will also be looking for an early-down back with LaDainian Tomlinson a candidate to be cut.

Darren Sproles rushed five times for 38 yards with two touchdowns and added two catches for 23 yards with one touchdown in Friday night’s blowout of the Titans.
This was Sproles' most productive game since Week 2. He was darting through the second level of the Titans defense, something we had barely seen since LaDainian Tomlinson has been healthy. Since the Chargers have the No. 2 seed in the AFC locked up, Sproles could be in line for more work against the Redskins next week.

Darren Sproles rushed three times for 11 yards and added three catches for 22 yards in Sunday's win over the Bengals.
