Bills GM Buddy Nix says arm strength will be a key factor as the team attempts to find a franchise QB this offseason.
"You don’t bring a guy in here, a quarterback for example, that has questionable arm strength," explained Nix. "In this wind and this climate you’ve got to be able to throw through that. So you bring one in that can do that." Noodle-armed Ryan Fitzpatrick will only return as a backup. Trent Edwards has adequate arm strength, but is too afraid to use it.

Bills GM Buddy Nix explained that he won't "handicap" coach Chan Gailey by making him keep a quarterback on the roster simply because he's already signed.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is the only Bills quarterback signed beyond the 2010 season. The team is fully expected to pursue a new starter this offseason. Many early mock drafts have Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen going to Buffalo, and Michael Vick has been mentioned as a viable possibility.

Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 16-of-25 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns as the Bills beat the Colts in Week 17.
Fitzpatrick finishes with a 9:10 TD-to-INT ratio and just a 6.2 YPA average. He has shown flashes of being a decent NFL backup, but wouldn't remotely be a starting option on a competitive team. Due a manageable $2.3 million salary, Fitzpatrick should return to Buffalo in 2010, though there's no doubt the new coaching staff and front office will look to upgrade with a stronger-armed quarterback in free agency and/or the draft.

Fitzpatrick will start Sunday's game against Indianapolis.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (ankle) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday's practice.
Fitzpatrick took the majority of the first-team snaps for the second straight day and appears to be the favorite for starting duties. The much anticipated Brian Brohm-Curtis Painter matchup will have to wait.
