Mario Haggan was promoted from the Broncos' third team to the starter at left outside linebacker Sunday.
Haggan has been strictly a special teamer since entering the league in 2003. He's moved ahead of Tim Crowder and Darrell Reid, but Haggans' two career sacks give us little hope that he'll be a pass-rushing presence on the strong side.

The Denver Post now expects first-rounder Robert Ayers to be an immediate starter at defensive end.
The Post reported Sunday that Ayers would play mostly outside linebacker in the hybrid defense, but he fits in better at end and fills a greater need there. Former ends Elvis Dumervil and Darrell Reid are the current favorites to start at outside linebacker.

Elvis Dumervil and Darrell Reid will be used as hybrid defensive end-linebackers to rush the quarterback.
"He's going to do both. He's going to have his hand on the ground some, and he's going to stand up some," said coach Josh McDaniels. As an undersized end and a poor run-stopper, Dumervil should be used almost exclusively as a pass rusher.

The Broncos plan to stand Darrell Reid up and use him at outside linebacker, according to the Denver Post.
Reid proved he can run while covering kicks in relentless fashion the last four years in Indy, but this may not be an easy transition. He'll need to shed about 30 pounds off his listed weight (288). It still seems more likely that Reid ends up on the line, playing tackle and end in Mike Nolan's 4-3 sets.

Broncos signed DL Darrell Reid to a three-year, $6.8 million contract.
Reid, a four-year veteran, was a special teams standout for the Colts. He will likely play as a run-stopping defensive end in the Mike Nolan's 3-4 defense. The Colts had soured on Reid after his second arrest as a pro earlier this month.

The Indianapolis Police Department has already dropped charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing against Colts DT Darrell Reid stemming from his late Saturday night arrest.
Police determined the incident occurred on public property, nixing the trespassing charge, and they had no evidence of disorderly conduct. Since the accusations were dropped so quickly, Reid should avoid NFL discipline.
