Coach Todd Haley envisions Brodie Croyle "playing a critical role" for the Chiefs going forward.
Despite a disappointing season, Matt Cassel is locked in as the starter as well as a key to the offensive nucleus. Croyle, a restricted free agent, showed Haley enough to be considered the answer as a long-term backup to Cassel in Kansas City.

 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Dec. 6 - 7:50 pm et

Coach Todd Haley confirmed after Sunday's loss to Denver that Matt Cassel will remain the Chiefs' starting quarterback in Week 14.
"It was going to be very difficult for us to...get in the game and it was a chance to get Brodie some snaps," Haley explained when asked why Cassel was benched for Brodie Croyle in the third quarter. Cassel was picked twice and had just 84 yards on 29 attempts against Denver, but was also the victim of countless drops. He has another tough matchup versus Buffalo in Week 14.

 Brodie Croyle-QB - Chiefs Dec. 6 - 6:06 pm et

Playing in relief of an ineffective Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle completed 6-of-14 passes for 50 yards against the Broncos in Week 13.
Croyle's most noteworthy attempt was an incomplete pass on a ridiculous fake punt from the Chiefs' own 28-yard line on the first drive of the third quarter. Todd Haley said after the game that he remains "very confident" in Cassel, so expect Croyle to head back to the bench next week.
 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Sep. 24 - 8:43 pm et

After causing a mini controversy with his quarterback comments Wednesday, coach Todd Haley made it clear Thursday that Matt Cassel gives the Chiefs their best chance to win.
Cassel is just one game into his Chiefs career, yet he's spent the past couple of days defending his role as the starting quarterback and hoping his head coach is "in his corner." Cassel would have to tank in order for Brodie Croyle to be a legit alternative, despite all the irrelevant discussion.

 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Sep. 22 - 2:49 pm et

Chiefs coach Todd Haley reiterated Tuesday that no player's job is safe, not even starting quarterback Matt Cassel's.
Haley has already shown with WR Dwayne Bowe, ILB Derrick Johnson, and S Bernard Pollard that he's not afraid to demote presumed starters. For emphasis, he added that "money, past draft status, and star power" mean nothing if a quarterback isn't winning. Brodie Croyle didn't embarrass himself in the opener, which means Cassel could be on a shorter leash than expected this season. But we wouldn't worry much about it.

 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Sep. 18 - 4:02 pm et

Chiefs coach Todd Haley confirmed Friday that Matt Cassel (knee) will be a game-time decision for Week 2.
Brodie Croyle will start against Oakland if Cassel can't, but we're tentatively expecting Cassel to get the nod. He looked much healthier in practice this week, and Haley confirmed Cassel is "clearly ahead" of where he was going into Week 1. Still, the Raiders are generating more pass rush and getting good play in the secondary. Cassel needs to be on fantasy benches.
